American Remake of Torchwood Rumoured

The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that Fox, an American TV Network, is currently planning on making a stateside version of the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood with series creator Russell T Davies. The 1996 Doctor Who television movie, featuring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, was originally conceived as a reboot for Doctor Who in America after it had been cancelled by the BBC a couple of years before.

Russell T Davies will reportedly be joined on the American remake of Torchwood by Julie Gardner, previous executive producer for Doctor Who and Torchwood, and by John Barrowman who played Jack Harkness. Despite Fox not actually having commissioned Torchwood, if the series goes ahead it will most likely feature some of the regular cast.

John Barrowman confirmed last November, that if Torchwood returns for a fourth series it will contain thirteen episodes and not five like Torchwood: Children of Earth. Russell also commented to Torchwood Magazine last year that he knows how series four will begin. Doctor Who Hideout will keep readers updated regarding Torchwood’s possible future in the United Kingdom.
