The BBC today revealed the next official Doctor Who logo, for Doctor Who’s Fifth series featuring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, on the BBC’s official Doctor Who website. An official “Introducing the Doctor Who logo 2010” is available here on the Doctor Who website detailing not only Doctor Who’s logo for 2010 but detailing the previous ten Doctor Who logos that have existed over the past Forty Six years.Ever since Doctor Who first began in 1963 with An Unearthly Child the programme has always carried a memorable and recognisable logo usually consisting of the words Doctor Who. The announcement yesterday marked the first time the Doctor Who logo has been updated since the BBC previously announced that Doctor Who would return after a sixteen year absence in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston.
The new era of Doctor Who begins with the Eleventh Doctor, portrayed by Matt Smith, and companion Amy Pond, portrayed by Karen Gillan, in Spring 2010 on BBC One and BBC HD. Before Spring 2010 Doctor Who returns for the Tenth Doctor’s penultimate story, The Waters of Mars by Phil Ford with Russell T Davies, on BBC One and BBC HD this Winter.
