Doctor Who Specials in HD

The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine has revealed that the 2009 Doctor Who specials are to be shot using High Definition Cameras. This means that the 2009 specials will be available to watch on both BBC One and the BBC’s HD Channel when they are broadcast in the United Kingdom.

The BBC Wales production team are currently filming the Easter special, Planet of the Dead, using high definition cameras. James Strong is directing Planet of the Dead featuring David Tennant as the Doctor, Michelle Ryan as Lady Christina and Lee Evans as Professor Malcolm.

Danielle Nagler recently said;

"I'm delighted that the Doctor Who specials are going to be shot in HD. The programme team has consistently tried to push at television boundaries, and to raise the quality for our audiences, and I'm glad we've been able to work with them to do so again."

Both the first and second series of Torchwood has been filmed in high definition are currently available on DVD. The upcoming series of Torchwood titled “Children of Earth” has also been filmed in high definition.
